In this article, we'll look at some notable personalities who attended the Federal University of Akure. These celebrities were once students of the University. 


1. Ernest Asi Afiesimama


Ernest Asi Afiesimama is a renowned climate and environmental scientist. He once worked for the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NMA) and is currently working for the World Meteorological Organization.


The Nigerian who hails from Ogoloma, Okrika, Rivers State, underwent his Aeronautical Meteorologist Course in the year 1988 at Zaria's Nigerian College of Aviation Technology before attending the Federal University of Technology Akure. Afiesimama recently bagged a first class degree in Law from a UK University.


2. Igbekele Amos Ajibefun


Igbekele Amos Ajibefun, was a former Vice chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University. The renowned scholar once rectored the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic. 


Igbekele Amos Ajibefun hails from Irele, Ondo State, Nigeria. He did his secondary education at the United Grammar School, Ode-Irele in Ondo State, before he proceeded to study Farm Management and Extension at the Federal University of Technology Akure in 1990. He received his doctorate degree in Agricultural economics from the same varsity. 

 

3. Adenike Adebukola Akinsemolu 

Another notable personality who is an alumnus of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, is Adenike Adebukola Akinsemolu. The popular female figure who is an environmental sustainability advocate and educator is also a social entrepreneur.





Adenike Adebukola Akinsemolu lectures at the Obafemi Awolowo University, one of the most prestigious universities in Nigeria.


Adenike Adebukola Akinsemolu hails from Ondo State Nigeria. She attended other universities apart from FUTA which includes Babcock University and Federal University of Technology. 



4. Ndubuisi Ekekwe


Ndubuisi Ekekwe is an inventor and engineer. He founded the First Atlantic Semiconductors and Microelectronics, a renowned embedded systems company in Africa. Ekekwe hails from Ovim, Abia State Nigeria. 


The Igbo-born technologist and writer went to Secondary Technical School before proceeding to study at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri where he bagged a bachelor's degree in Electrical engineering. The US-based semiconductor industry veteran obtained his master's degree  from Federal University of Technology, Akure.



5. Henry Fadamiro


Henry Yemisi Fadamiro, a renowned Nigerian-American is also among the popular alumni of the Federal University of Technology, Akure. The entomologist and academic administrator co-founded the International Association of Black Entomologists.


Henry Fadamiro originally hails from Ondo State where he did his secondary school education before proceeding to study Biology at the Federal University of Technology, Akure in 1989. He also did his master's degree in the same varsity before earning a doctorate degree in Entomology and Pest Management from a United Kingdom's university.


6. Ganiyu Oboh


You may be surprised that Ganiyu Oboh attended the Federal University of Technology Akure, isn't it? Oh well, he's one of the notable alumni of the university. 


The great scholar, Ganiyu Oboh, is a  professor of Applied Biochemistry at FUTA and presently the head of department of Functional Food and Nutraceutical Laboratory Unit in the same varsity Department of Biochemistry.


The Professor first obtained his first degree sometime in 1992, before bagging his Masters in 1997. In 2002, he got his  Ph.D degree in Applied Biochemistry in the same university. Other universities he attended include Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, a Brazilian University and the Germans’ Technische Universität Dresden.



7. Taiwo Odubiyi


Taiwo Odubiyi, Nigeria's notable author and international speaker, is the senior associate pastor, alongside her husband Sola Odubiyi of Still Waters Church International.   


The Nigerian has written over 20 award-winning novels which includes children's books, relationships and self-help books among others. The renowned author is also a tele– evangelist who founded the Pastor Taiwo Odubiyi Ministries.


The pastoress and counsellor attended the Federal University of Technology, Akure, where she bagged a master's degree in Business Administration.



8. Temidayo Isaiah Oniosun


Temidayo Isaiah Oniosun is one of Nigeria's known space scientists. Temidayo was the founder of Space in Africa, was the former African coordinator for the Space Generation Advisory Council. 


The young Nigerian hails from Okaka, Nigeria. Sometime in 2021, he was listed among Forbes Africa under 30 for his remarkable contributions to the satellite and space industry.


The businessman grew up in Oyo, State Nigeria. He did his early education in his home state before graduating with a bachelor degree in meteorology from the Federal University of Technology, Akure sometime in 2016. He later furthered his studies by studying in University of Strathclyde among others.



9. Olalekan Sipasi


Olalekan Sipasi is an agriculturist and entrepreneur. The Nigerian graduated from the Federal University of Technology, Akure. He co-founded ProtectOzone, a Nonprofit organization which was initiated in 2015 in Africa to set in motion citizen awareness in protecting the ozone layer, and as well train women, indigent children, amongst others in sustainable agricultural practices.


Olalekan Sipasi also invented the Mobile Kitchen Garden, an innovation which earned him international recognition and awards such as  the 2015 Hidden Eco-hero Award.



10. Styl-Plus


Styl-Plus is a Nigerian R&B and pop music group founded by Tunde Akinsanmi, Shifi Emoefe, Yemi Lanre Faneyi and Akinwonmi. All the members of this musical group are alumni of  the Federal University of Technology in Akure.
