Polytechnics Offering Secretarial Studies In Nigeria.

1. Abdu Gusau Polytechnic, Talata Mafara

Abdu Gusau Polytechnic which is a State–government owned polytechnic, situated in Talata Mafara, Zamfara State, Nigeria was established in the year 1992. 

Founded by the former governor of Sokoto State, Yahaya Abdulkarim, Abdu Gusau Polytechnic. The governor renamed the Institution to 'Abdu Gusau Polytechnic' sometime in February, 1995 in honor of the Engineer Abdu Gusau in recognition of his great contribution to the state development.

Abdu Gusau Polytechnic is one of the most popular institutions in its geopolitical zone. It currently boasts about nineteen departments housing over two thousand students. Abdu Gusau Polytechnic presently enrolled students on ND's (National Diploma) as well as in HND's (Higher National Diploma). Secretarial Studies in Abdu Gusau Polytechnic received its accreditation in 2004.

2. Abia State Polytechnic, Aba

The state government-owned Institution, Abia State Polytechnic, came into existence in 1992. The citadel of learning is situated in Aba, Abia State, Nigeria. Abia Poly has various schools in its institution, some of which includes School of Business Administration, School of Science and Engineering, among others.

Abia State Polytechnic, Aba is one of the pioneer Polytechnics in the region. It offers a wide range of ND and HND accredited programmes such as Accountancy, Business Studies, Public Administration, Statistics, Computer Science and Secretarial Studies which is now known as Office Technology and Management. On July 19 2022, the National Board for Technical Education, announced the withdrawal of the accreditation status of the Polytechnic, Aba, over the non-payment of staff allowances and salaries.

3. Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi

Auchi Polytechnic, a Federal Polytechnic in Auchi, Edo State, Nigeria, is amongst the pioneer Polytechnics established in Nigeria.  Founded in 1963, the institution has notable alumni such as Hanks Anuku, a popular Nigerian Nollywood actor and Paul Obazele, an award-winning movie  actor and director. 

The Edo Polytechnic currently boasts of over ten thousand students admitted into various faculties of the institution. It boasts of one of the best facilities necessary for learning. In the year 1994, the Federal Government of Nigeria took over the institution from the then government of Edo State. HND Secretarial Studies got its accreditation from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) in 2004.

4. Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi

Secretarial Studies, which is now known as Office Technology and Management is offered in Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi. The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) in 2006 gave accreditation to the Institution’s ND Secretarial Studies programme. 

Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi is located at Gwallameji village, Bauchi, Dass Road, Bauchi Town, Bauchi State, Northern Nigeria. Established in 1979, the Polytechnic is also one of the oldest polytechnic in the region. It was formed through the Decree 33(Act 33) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria with few other institutions with the aim of running full-time as well as part-time programmes in various fields.

In 2020, Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi was granted approval to run nine (9) degree courses in affiliation with the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi.

5. Federal Polytechnic, Bida

Established in 1977, the Federal Polytechnic, Bida is a Federal Government–owned polytechnic located in Niger State, Nigeria. This is one of the most beautiful and standard polytechnics in Nigeria. In 2018, Federal Polytechnic, Bida was ranked among the top best 50 Polytechnics in Nigeria.

The Polytechnics currently has about 200 academic staff, and over 4500 undergraduate students. Located precisely along Bida Road, Doko, Niger State, the institution was formerly known as Federal College of Technology, Kano. The institution, now one of the best, boasts of about seven faculties offering a wide range of programs in the sciences and in arts.

6. Federal Polytechnic, Damaturu

The Federal Polytechnic Damaturu is another renowned Institution offering Secretarial Studies (Office Technology and Management) in Nigeria which got its accreditation by the NBTE in 2006. The Federal government-owned higher education Institution established in 1992, is situated in Damaturu, Yobe State, Northern Nigeria. 

In 2019, the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), approved the newly introduced courses by the Federal Polytechnic, some of which includes, the Higher National Diploma in Civil Engineering, National Diploma in Urban and Regional Planning, Higher National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Ammag others.

7. Federal Polytechnic, Ede

The South West higher education Institution, Federal Polytechnic, Ede was formed in 1992. It's one of the best and most popular National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) awarding institutions not only in its geo-political zone but in Nigeria.

The Public Institution, beside Offering Secretarial Studies/Office Technology and Management, offers a wide range of programs which includes, Banking and Finance, Civil Engineering Technology, Fashion Design and Textile Technology, Nutrition and Dietetics, amongst others.

8. Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro

The Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro came into existence on July 25, 1979. The tertiary Institution is situated in Ogun State Nigeria. The Institution is ranked by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria as one of the Polytechnics in the country that has maintained high standards of tuition in accountancy. The Institution also runs over 32 degree awarding programmes.

9. Federal Polytechnic, Mubi

Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, one of the oldest  Federal Government-owned Polytechnics in Adamawa State, northeastern Nigeria, is amongst the seven Federal Polytechnics established by the Decree No. 33 of 1979. 

10. Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa

Established on July 1, 1983, the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa often called Fed Poly Nasarawa, offers Office Technology and Management, formerly known as Secretarial Studies. The tertiary education Institution was established by the Federal Government of Nigeria to foster technological development in the country and beyond. The institution has a high ranking in terms of academic reputation.

Cut Off Mark To Study Secretarial Studies In Nigeria

To study Secretarial Studies at a Nigerian Polytechnic Nigeria, such as Auchi Polytechnic, you're required to meet the institution’s cut off mark of 150 and above. While some institutions like Osun State Polytechnic pegs its cut off mark for Office Technology and Management (Secretarial Studies) at 120. You're advised to score higher if you want to get admitted into these institutions. Scoring below 150 may not guarantee you getting admission to study this course in any public polytechnics because of its competitiveness.
