History
Sports University was established with the objective of grooming raw talents with ability and capacity to compete globally in the worlds of sports. Sports University was established to groom students to excel in top sports events and competitions like the World Cup tournaments, Olympics, among others. Students of the varsity are given the best form of training to stand out in the world of sports, be it football, volleyball, basketball, tennis, basketball and many others.
At the beginning stage of the Sports University, Nigeria, Idumuje-Ugboko, the founder, Prince Ned Nwoko, expressed confidence that the fruition of the project would make provision a watershed in the sporting fortunes of some developing nations to beget competitive parity in global sports.
The University during its establishment, received a lot of praises and commendation from notable Nigerians. In August 2020, Mr. Austin Egwavoen, Former Manager of the Nigerian U23 Team, said that the Sports University when completed will bring massive development to the people here in the community, as they will be engaged. He urged Nigerians to embrace it, adding that the benefits are not for now, but will be felt in generation to come.
Another notable personality in the world of sports, Ex Nigerian International Soccer Player Victor Ikpeba, commended the vision of Prince Ned Nwoko in establishing the first sports university in n Nigeria but in and in sub-saharan Africa.
In June 2020, Prince Ned Nwoko conducted Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, the Speaker Delta State of Assembly as they both supervised the level of work done on the proposed University. The Speaker expressed satisfaction with what he saw on ground while commending the founder for being in the forefront of educational reforms and development in not just the state but the country as a whole, he also pledged the support of the legislative arm of government to ensure the project is a success.
Prince Ned Nwoko visited the Delta State Governor Sen. Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa In August 2020, to Present academic reports, environmental impacts assessment and master plans of the varsity to the Governor at the government house, Asaba, Delta State. The Founder of the varsity was in company of Ex Nigeria Football Players Victor Ikpeba and Austine Egwavoen, Dr. Michael Nwoko, the SSA to the Delta State Governor on Health Monitoring and Rita Daniels Chukwuji, the PDP Assistant Treasurer.
In September 2020, the Nollywood Community endorsed the establishment of the proposed University. The delegation which had the likes of Queen Ebigieson, Vincent Oppurum, Desmond Arinze, Tonia Nwosu and Olatorera Olowonyo called on all lovers of sports to avail themselves the opportunity to attend the First Sports University in Sub Saharan Africa when it begins its operation next school year.
On the 14th December 2020 at the Mount of Delta, in Aniocha North LGA, the traditional rulers, which includes HRM Obi, Ijei, Ofuokwu, Otiegede, Chukwumalieze, Ogoh and six others were at the Proposed University site on a fact-finding mission as part of the resolutions of the 4/10/2020 enlarged meeting of the Traditional Rulers Committee and the Idumuje-Ugboko Community on ways to resolving the crisis in Idumuje-Ugboko.
The vice Chancellor of Novena University, Prof. G. C. Nduka was present and also the Secretary, Aniocha North Traditional Rulers Committee, Louis Nkenchor Nwokolo.
Twenty-three Years ago, Prince Ned Nwoko conceived the idea of having a Sports University in Nigeria to be located in Idumuje Ugboko Delta State. While in parliament, he sponsored a Bill for its establishment. The Bill wasn't passed but Mr Ned never gave up on that dream. Few years after serving as a Member of the House of Representatives, Prince Ned founded the Sports University in Nigeria.
In April 2022, a dream that started many years ago came to reality. The Federal Executive Council of Nigeria approved the issuance of provisional license to 12 Universities amongst which is Sports University Of Nigeria.
Sports University Scholarship
In May 29, 2022, the founder of Sports University Nigeria, Mr Nwoko disclosed that plans were underway to give out full scholarships to 150 students at the newly approved First Sports University in Nigeria
The Billionaire Philanthropist and Antarctica explorer disclosed this when his personal staff in Abuja had waited at the Private Jet wing to welcome him back to Abuja and celebrate his landslide victory at the just concluded Delta North senatorial primary election of People’s Democratic Party in Delta State where he polled 246 votes to defeat his challenger Paul osaji who had 67 votes.

Sports University is located at Idumuje Ugboko an agrarian part of Aniocha North Local Government Area, Delta State, Nigeria. The University also occupies a land size of about 190 hectares. It's sited 1000 feet above the sea.
