Baze University History
Baze University, Abuja, is a privately-owned tertiary institution situated in the federal Capital territory Abuja, Nigeria. It was established by Nigeria's former Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, a vice Presidential candidate to Mr Peter Obi of the Labour Party.
Established in early 2011, Baze University, Abuja, got approval to commence academic activities from the National Universities Commission (NUC) in March of the same year. The varsity immediately proceeded with activities fully with a few lecturers and about seventeen students. In 2014, the population of students grew to 1,300.
The university started with a foundation class and three faculties which includes law, computer and applied sciences, management and social sciences. Mr Micheal Hodd was the vice-chancellor at the time.
In October 10, 2014, Baze University graduated sixty four students and conferred posthumous honorary doctorate degree to Dr. Stella Adadevoh, the first Nigerian physician to die of Ebola. Others who were honoured include the former Sultan of Sokoto, Ibrahim Dasuki among others.
On June 22, 2016, Skyline University College (SUC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Baze University in Abuja, Nigeria. SUC COEC Mr. Nitin Anand and Baze University Director for Academic Planning Dr. Mani Ibrahim Ahmed signed the MOU on behalf of their respective organizations. Both parties agreed to collaborate on faculty and student exchange, scholarship programs, conferences hosted by both institutions, information exchange on curriculum development, among others.
Sometime in 2016, the Sokoto State Government withdrew about thirty-nine of its students from various United Arab Emirates Universities to study in Baze University, Abuja due to its financial setback.
In 2017, former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan was in attendance during the university’s 4th convocation.
Baze University paid a courtesy visit to Vice President Osinbajo in June 2017.
On June 21, 2018, the management of the Baze University issued a directive to securities and the University Hall administrators to not permit any Sokoto students to sleep in the varsity premises due to the unpaid fees by the government of Sokoto State.
In November 2018, a 20-year-old Miss Nengi Ibama from the department of Economics, Baze University, Abuja emerged as the overall best graduating student among the 230 graduating students from three faculties of the institution during its fifth convocation ceremony.
In July 2019, Baze University announced that, effective from September 2019, the National Universities Commission (NUC) approved the commencement of the Law LLM, Computer Science M.Sc., Accounting M.Sc. and Public Administration M.Sc. Post Graduate Programmes.
In February 2021, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state revealed that he allocated a piece of land to Yusuf Ahmed, the pro-, chancellor of Baze university, in Abuja.He made this disclosure when the founder and members of the university management paid him a courtesy visit in Bauchi.
The Abuja varsity In 2021, kicked started the construction of its University Teaching Hospital. Structures such as the students’ Hostel which consisted of two blocks for males and females with a capacity for five hundred students each and Staff Housing Complex have already been built and put to use.
Same year, Baze University, Abuja patterned with the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA) in order to integrate and embed what's known as ACCA curriculum into the curriculum of universities in order to grow the number of accounting and finance professionals in the subregion of Africa.
On June 27, 2021, Baze University inaugurated the President Students’ Council. Comrade Gbande, a law student in 500 level, son of a Member of the House of Representatives, Dr. Moses Gbande, was made to oversee the council.
On 22 October 2021, Atiku, Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar delivered a speech at the Baze University Graduation ceremony in Abuja.
On 23rd October 2021, Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari who was represented by the Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Mr George Akume, commissioned the Baze University Teaching Hospital. He appreciated the varsity founder, Yusuf Datti Baba Ahmed, for his commitment and vision on education and the country's health sectors.
On 17 November 2021, Stanbic IBTC Bank PLC underscored its desire to assist in building robust education and health care systems in Nigeria by providing funds for the building of Baze University Teaching Hospital in Abuja.

In November 2021, the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Abuja chapter, organised a training workshop for students of Mass Communication and Media Studies which was held Friday at the Jabi Campus of Baze University in Abuja as part of activities marking the institution’s annual conference.
In March 2022, the former Vice President of Nigeria, Namadi Sambo while inaugurating a seven-member board of the Baze University Teaching Hospital, said the hospital would be a reference centre for health services in the country.

In June 2022, Global Wissen Consulting (GWC) a Swedish/Nigerian social enterprise, in a bid to deepen digital skills and literacy among students, trained and issued certificates to students from its digital entrepreneurship program held at Baze University in Abuja.

Baze University, Abuja School Fees
Baze University Abuja, in 2022. Students in faculties of Social Sciences, Management, Computing and Applied Sciences currently pay N1,361,250 per semester, N2,722,500 per session.School Fees for Law, Engineering and Basic Medical and Health Sciences, Environmental Sciences, is currently pegged at N1,512,500, and N3, 025,000 per session.
School fee for MBBS 100 is N1,512,500 per semester, N3,025,000 per session.
Baze University Hostel Fees
In January 2021, the fee for hostel accommodation per semester is pegged at N357,706.25 per semester.• Feeding (Optional) is N240 000 per semester.
• Laundry (Optional) is N50,000 per semester.
Baze University Scholarship
In July 2021, Managing Partner of Principle Legal Consult, Barr. Prada Uzodinma launched a scholarship grant in Baze university. It was established to encourage specifically law students of the University towards their journey as future lawyers. The scholarship grant is part of the corporate social responsibility of Principle Legal Consult.
In February 2020, Baze University presented letters of Admission and Certificates of Scholarship Award to five junior security officers who are beneficiaries of the first Baze University Pro-Chancellor's Scholarship Scheme.
