Established in October 1962, Ahmadu Bello University, is one of the few Nigerian universities offering this Programme, but offers it as Mining And Minerals Engineering.Ahmadu Bello University Zaria (ABU) is a federal government-owned research university located in Kaduna State, Nigeria. The Institution was previously known as the University of Northern Nigeria.
Mining And Minerals Engineering is a programme offered under the department of Metallurgical & Materials Engineering from the Engineering faculty. Engr. Dr. E. O. A. Damisa is one of the pioneer lecturers of the department who was once the National President of the Nigerian Society of Mining Engineers (NSME).
Ahmadu Bello University Mining And Minerals Engineering 100l and 200l Courses
While 100l students offers these courses for second semester; MATH102, MATH104, MATH106, PHYS122, PHYS124, PHYS162, CHEM112, CHEM132, CHEM162, STAT102, GENS104, GEOL102, GEOL106, ENGG102, MIEN112.

3. Federal University of Technology Akure
Established in 1981, the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), is a Federal government-owned university situated in Ondo State Nigeria. This is the only University in Southern Nigeria that offers mining engineering. The University over the years has graduated with theoretical knowledge of technologies.The institution runs this undergraduate degree program with the aim of training students and equipping them with the necessary skills needed to effectively and efficiently perform in the mining industry. No doubt, FUTA is one the best universities to study Mining Engineering, it has one the best facilities, well-equipped library for Engineering students, lecture halls etc. The varsity has produced quite a number of notable alumni such as Ernest Afiesimama, Ndubuisi Ekekwe among others.
Before one can be awarded with a degree of Bachelor of Engineering (B. Eng) in Mining Engineering from FUTA, he/she must complete 212 units for those who got admitted using UTME credentials, and 165 units for students enrolled via Direct Entry and must obtain a CGPA not less than 1.50.
