Goodluck Nanah Opiah Educational Background
Born October 23, 1964, Goodluck Nanah Opiah popularly known as Ikeoha Niger Delta, is a renowned Nigerian politician, philanthropist, a former Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly. He's currently the Minister of State for Education in Nigeria.
Goodluck Nanah Opiah hails from South East, Nigeria, Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State to be precise. He did his primary education at the Abacheke Primary School Egbema before proceeding to Egbema Secondary School in Imo State where he completed his secondary education and also bagged his O'level result in 1982.
The politician furthered his education by studying Business Administration at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) located at the South-South part of Nigeria.
In the year 1987, Opiah graduated from the Rivers State government-owned varsity with a bachelor's degree before heading to Leeds Metropolitan University, United Kingdom, where he bagged a master's degree in Corporate Governance.
Goodluck Nanah Opiah Career
Before joining politics, between 1989 and 2003, Goodluck Nanah Opiah served in various private firms such as UTC Plc as well as the Bewac Plc situated in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Opiah worked there for several years and also served as the company's general manager before resigning.
Following his retirement serving in private firms, Goodluck Opiah fully pursued his political career. He was elected to represent the Ohaji/Egbema constituency at the Imo State House of Assembly in 2003.
Opiah, between 2003 and 2007, emerged as member and chairman of several house committees as well as Ad-hoc committees in the House. He did served as Chairman on Transport Committee, Chairman, House Committee on Commerce etc
In the year 2012, the former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan made Opiah the chairman governing Board of Agricultural and Rural Management Institute in Kwara State, South West Nigeria.
Honourable Goodluck Opiah in July 2015, expressed disappointment over President Muhammadu Buhari exclusion of Igbos in the appointment of service chiefs. Opiah urged the government to put behind the problem of election and concentrate on governance where everyone should be carried along in line with President Buhari’s “belong to nobody and belong to everybody.”
Opiah, In 2020, was appointed to serve as the Special Adviser and Coordinator on Oil and Gas matters in Imo State by the state governor, Mr Hope Uzodinma.
On 24 February 2021, the leaders of Mmahu Autonomous Community, Egbema, in Ohaji-Egbema Local Government Area, visited Opiah in his residence in Owerri. The visit was to appreciate him for intervening in the crisis rocking the community. The delegation was led by Mr. Charles Mgbaraho, the Town Union Chairman of Mmahu.
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), Governor Buni in June 201, approved the appointment, Governor Dapo Abiodun, Goodluck Nanah Opiah among others to conduct APC Anambra governorship primary election which was held on June 26th, 2021.
The Rivers State University alumni, on January 2, 2022, presented an award of patron to Goodluck Nanah Opiah. The leader of the group, Engineer Ken Aliba in his speech said that Opiah has been celebrated as a leader who has used his skill and learning from the university to distinguish himself in the private sector as well in politics, impacting the lives of Nigerians through his selfless service.
On April 27, 2022, Opiah who's the Commissioner for Petroleum Resources, condemned those engaging in oil bunkering in Imo State. He condemned this act following an explosion at an illegal refinery at Abaezi Forest, in the Ohaji-Egbema Local Government Area of the state.
“In as much as the challenges always encountered in the fight against illegal oil bunkering are stubborn, they are also very much surmountable. In other words, illegal oil bunkering can be effectively stopped” Opiah partly stated | Punch Newspaper
Goodluck Nanah Opiah purchased the Expression of Interest and Nomination form for Imo West Senatorial for the Orlu Zone under the All progressive party (APC) on May 10, 2022, and on May 15 of the same month, he was reportedly screened to contest for the Senatorial position.
Goodluck Nanah Opiah, in July 6, 2022, was sworn-in as Nigeria's Minister of State for Education by the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari. He was appointed to succeed Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba after his resignation to contest for the seat of the President under the All progressive party (APC). Opiah, after being sworn in, promised to deliver using all resources available, adding that he's delighted to be given the opportunity to serve his people under the present administration.

In April 5, 2018, Goodluck Nanah Opiah received both the TimeNews Distinguished Nation-Builders Awards and the AfricaWeek International Awards of Merit for his legislative exploits and leadership qualities as well as contributions to human capital and development of Imo State and Nigeria in general.
On 21 June 2018, Goodluck Nanah Opiah Bags Imo State Distinguished Personality Award 2018 by Chris Events and Model Company in Partnership with the Imo State Ministry Of Youths and Sports.
Goodluck Nanah Opiah was presented the Egbema Massive Movement (E.M.M) Leader's award by National leader and founder of the foremost advocacy group in Ancient Egbema kingdom of Imo/Rivers State, Comrade I.E. Kelly Rufus.
